College Football, Florida Gators

Nick’s Picks: Week 13
Florida takes its shot at a title

#1 ALABAMA (-17.5) AT #7 FLORIDA

Moneyline: Alabama (-900) / Florida (+550)
Total: Over/Under 74.5

The adrenaline is flowing just thinking about this game.

Am I overly optimistic in a Florida upset over the Saban machine? Nope.

But this is exactly where we want to be, folks. Decembers should be spent in Atlanta with a chance to bring home another SEC title.

I’m not celebrating the fact that Florida has won the East. This program defines itself on titles, but the opportunity to win a SEC title only comes so often.

Florida needs to leave its brutal loss to LSU in the past. In the words of Dr. Seuss:

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.

Florida can be a dangerous team if the Gators adopt the right mindset. Florida has nothing to lose here. They’re seen as more than a two-touchdown by Vegas. For all of its struggles on defense, Florida has a national championship level offense. A quick start followed by a few big plays on defense could kept things interesting, but Florida will have to put together monumental effort if the Gators are going to pull off the upset.

Alabama wins, but Florida covers.

FLORIDA (+17.5)

#5 TEXAS A&M (-14) AT TENNESSEE

Moneyline: Texas A&M (-650) / Tennessee (+425)
Total: Over/Under 51

Texas A&M is currently on the outside looking in on the College Football Playoff. A  good performance on Rocky Top can’t hurt the Aggies, but the fact of the matter is their playoff hopes are likely tied to Ohio State falling to Northwestern and/or Clemson being upset by Notre Dame. A focused effort from Jimbo’s Aggies will help make a positive final impression on the CFP Committee.

TEXAS A&M (-14)

OLE MISS (-1) AT LSU

Moneyline: Ole Miss (-115) / LSU (+105)
Total: Over/Under 74

A monster upset over Florida will help Coach O fend off the wolves in Baton Rouge this offseason. Another upset over Ole Miss may even provide this young group of Tigers with some momentum.  LSU should come back to Earth after their miracle win in The Swamp. Ole Miss has too much firepower for LSU. Rebels will finish strong in Baton Rouge.

OLE MISS (-1)

MISSOURI (-1.5) AT MISSISSIPPI STATE

Moneyline: Missouri (-120) / Mississippi State (Even)
Total: Over/Under 49

Leach came in with the hype, but Drinkwitz and the Tigers have been one of the surprise teams in the SEC this season. Mississippi State is at the end of what has morphed into a rebuilding year. The Bulldogs will need to show up with one of their best performances of the season if they intend to pull off the upset to end the season on a high note. Missouri has been solid in their toss-up games. Mizzou gets it done despite being short-handed.

By this logic, the following also should be noted.

Trask passing yards and TDs vs Georgia: 474 yards and 4 TDs

JT Daniels passing yards and TDs vs Florida: 0 yards and 0 TDs

Maybe the Dawgs will properly identify a starting QB before the last three games of the season next year…coaching matters.

Georgia logic never ceases to amaze.

FLORIDA (-23) – Incorrect

I’m sticking with Florida to cover despite two last-minute heartbreaks over the last two weeks. Geaux Gatas!

Still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

ARKANSAS +32 – Incorrect

Arkansas won’t have that kind of success this week, but can the Hogs hang within 32-points of a Crimson Tide team which will be looking ahead to Atlanta a week after burning off steam against LSU? Yessirrrrrrrr! Woo Pig Sooie!

Bama nearly covered by halftime.

GEORGIA MONEYLINE – Correct

Georgia wins this one, but on the off chance the Mizzou offense shows up, let’s go with the Dawgs on the moneyline.

Dawgs handled their business and end 2020 on a strong note. A long winter of questioning why it took so long to put Daniels into the lineup lies ahead.

TENNESSEE MONEYLINE – Correct

I’ve watched enough of this Tennessee team to not trust a Vols quarterback in 2020. Vols win, but Vandy sticks around.

The Vols had only crossed the 20-point threshold three other times this season before their season high 42-point output against Vandy.

AUBURN (-6.5) – Correct

State has shown good fight in its last two outings against UGA and Ole Miss, but after two tough losses to Bama and A&M, expect a strong showing out the Gus Bus to give the fans something to be confused about heading into the offseason. Auburn wins big.

The Gus Bus got the win, but ran out of gas shortly after the Tigers’ win over Mississippi State.
